The aim of this site is to make available doctrinal and expository material based on the sovereignty of God and the doctrines of grace. This material has been in preparation for over 20 years, and it is only now that the author - Gordon Lyons - has decided that they should be released to the Christian public.

The author has endeavoured to expound the truths of God's Word to the best of his limited abilities. He is very much aware of the inadequacies of these Expository Notes and also of the doctrinal series, Bible Truths Explained. However, he appeals to the readers to judge for themselves their usefulness in opening up the truths of God's Word and causing God's people to search out the true meaning of the sacred Scriptures, as the Holy Spirit intended them to be understood and applied. Thereby, it is hoped, that the people of God may be spiritually fed and nourished - not on the words of man - but on the eternal and unchanging Word of God.

Gordon Lyons was called by God to preach the Gospel among young people on the streets of the city where he then lived. For nearly 25 years, between the early 1970's and the mid 1990's, many hundreds of young people heard and learned the words of eternal life, and of the only way of salvation through repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. During the latter part of this time, and until he left this city, the author enjoyed happy fellowship with the believers at Harper Memorial Baptist Church, in Glasgow, Scotland.

During the course of this 25 year outreach ministry among young people, and as time permitted, the author privately studied systematic theology and other related subjects, using, among others, the works of C. Hodge, R. L. Dabney, and L. Berkhof. Some years after these studies, and following further study in the Word of God, the author began work on Bible Truths Explained (a series of studies on Bible doctrines). Later, a start was made on a series of NT commentaries or Expository Notes . When the outdoor work came to a close some years ago, the author began concentrating his time and efforts on revising and completing this written study material. The series Bible Truths Explained and the first of the series of NT Expository Notes are now available on this site for reading online or for download. Other titles should follow in due course (DV). At the moment, the doctrinal series Bible Truths Explained consists of 27 different studies. When completed, the commentary or Expository Notes series should cover all the books of the New Testament with the exception of Revelation.

Your earnest support in prayer would be much appreciated. The author believes that the teaching presented in these studies is wholly in accord with the Word of God, and that he presents to his readership the uncompromising truths of God's holy, inerrant and unchanging Word. However, the writer is well aware that such teaching does not meet with general acceptance or approval. Yet, out of a sense of duty and responsibility toward God, and out of genuine Christian love and concern for his fellow believers, he dare not compromise or modify the teaching of God's Word to make it more acceptable or popular to the general Christian public. Therefore, the author has endeavoured to present the truth as the Lord Jesus taught it and as the apostles proclaimed it, and as they and other inspired New Testament writers expounded it in their epistles. Gordon Lyons stands by the teaching of the divinely inspired and unchanging Word of God; and, in all good conscience, he cannot fail to teach that Word in all its fullness, power and glory. May God be pleased to bless this feeble effort to honour his name in the expounding of his holy Word.

It is the author's earnest prayer that you will find these studies and commentaries helpful and that God will richly bless you as you search and examine the unchanging and infallible Word of God, which these studies seek to expound to the glory of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
